Dassault Systèmes, the French tech giant behind the 3D CAD products used to design most of the planes, trains and automobiles we use today, led a $14.2 million investment round in NuoDB, a NewSQL database player. Dassault has been using NuoDB’s database for more than a year.
This round brings web design total funding for the Cambridge, Mass. company to about $26.2 million and includes additional contributions by existing NuoDB investors Hummer Winblad, Morgenthaler Ventures and Longworth Venture Partners.
The four-year-old database startup was founded by CEO Barry Morris (pictured above) and database giant Jim Starkey, who helped launch Digital Equipment Corp.’s RdB database — now owned by Oracle — and Interbase, which was bought by Borland.
